Received this as an email.  Not sure its origin, but it helped answer a question that had been puzzling me for years.  We do not realize how hard Santa works all year round and that this can be a stressful time of the year.  We all have our moments and this was his…..

Many years ago just days before Christmas Eve Santa Claus was in a tizzy.  Four of Santa’s elf management team had got sick on a business trip to Mexico (tequila and elves do not go well), the trainee elves did not produce toys as fast as the regular ones and with no operational leadership on the production floor and a terrible lack of specific processes to follow and poor quality control,  Santa began to feel the Pre-Christmas pressure and almost turned to China to offset his poor production flow as they had ample capacity and even offered to loan him resources to build a second production facility at the South Pole to improve efficiency.

Then Mrs. Claus told Santa her Mother was coming to visit, which stressed Santa even more. Needless to say the Tums were popping at the North Pole that week.  Needless to say Santa loves little children, but not his mother-in-law.

When Santa went to harness the reindeer, he found that three of them were about to give birth and two others had jumped the fence and were out roaming the Pole, Heaven knows where.   When he began to load the sleigh, one of the floorboards cracked, the toy bag fell to the ground and all the toys were scattered.

Frustrated, Santa went in the house for a cup of apple cider and a nice shot of rum. When he went to the cupboard, he discovered the elves had drunk all the cider and hidden the liquor.. In his frustration, he accidentally dropped the cider jug, and it broke into hundreds of little glass pieces all over the kitchen floor. He went to get the broom and found the mice had eaten all the straw off the end of the broom. He was at his breaking point!

Just then the doorbell rang, and an irritated Santa marched to the door, yanked it open, and there stood a beautiful little Angel with a great big Christmas tree.   The Angel smiled at Santa and said very cheerfully, ‘Merry Christmas, Santa. Isn’t this a lovely day? I have a beautiful tree for you. Where would you like me to stick it?’

Santa just smiled back….and so began the tradition of the little angel sitting  atop of the Christmas tree.

Not a lot of people know this, but you now do.

Life Before There Were Cell Phones and Facebook. The Dark Ages?

March 13, 2010 Family

What did kids do before there were cell phones and Facebook? This thought came to me as an email I received about how easy kids have it now. It made me think if life was harder when I was a kid or was it just simpler? If you are over 45, you will relate!

At the ripe old age of 52 and all 3 of my children grown up, I can’t help but look around and notice the youth of today and how much technology has changed their lives, their expectations and how they interact. It is easy and almost comical to point out how much easier a kid’s life is in so many ways compared to what I had growing up, but how much is really good and how much makes life harder for them in the long run? I do not have an answer, but would love to share some memories..

More Social Awareness for Parents – Do You Know What Chatroulette Is?

February 23, 2010 Family

As social networking and social media tools expands, so do the platforms and options available for people, especially our kids to communicate. This brings me to Chattoulette, which is the brain child of a 17 year old Russian teenager. It allows you to link up with total strangers via video. Many consider Chatroulette as the hottest face-to-face or one on one video chat application on the internet that is a webcam-linking social network. It’s like Facebook, but you link up via video feed. Have you ever heard of it? You log on with a webcam and then basically spin the wheel. You end up talking to total strangers from all over the world and it is important to know that everything that you say or do can be recorded by whomever you are chatting with.

A Socially Networked Super Bowl Is Like Chicken Soup for the Frustrated Fan’s Soul

February 8, 2010 Pro Sports

Experienced my first real social interactive Super Bowl yesterday as I had my laptop linked to Facebook, Twitter and NFL.com sites throughout the game as I sat in front of the TV. Proud to also say I spilled almost nothing on it (maybe a little dip, I had a cracker malfunction during halftime). For me it made the game more fun, interesting, entertaining and actually relaxing. Being able to bloviate at will online whether celebrating a nice play, critique everyone involved, commiserate with those who “feel your pain” or just abuse somebody in New Orleans brings game involvement to a new level without having to wait in line for a beer.

The 4 Essential Social Media Resources To Use During Super Bowl XLIV

February 6, 2010 Fun

It is Super Bowl XLIV Weekend and even though my hometown favorite did not make it to Miami this season I will be watching the game along with millions of others. The difference is that this will be my first interactive Super Bowl. Yes my laptop (to the almost certain disdain of my wife) will be placed in front of me in the middle of the coffee table surrounded by all of the other Super Bowl essentials (chips, nachos, cheese, wings, crackers, beer, wine, etc).

Former NBA star Jalen Rose shared what he called the “8 Social Media Resources for Super Bowl XLIV” on the Mashable Blog this morning and for all of those who want to bring a new dimension to your Super Bowl experience while relaxing in from of your TV I suggest you read his article and stake out a spot for the laptop prior to game time.

Social Networking Awareness – A Must for Every Parent!

February 4, 2010 Family

The question today is not “it’s 10pm do you know where your child is?” as it was in the past. We know where they are. They are up in their room on the computer, roaming the internet and hanging out on social networks. The question is which is worse?

Social networking is fast becoming woven into the fabric of our society and will continue to grow and dominate how we all communicate in the future. As parents, we all need to understand what that means and how to both prepare and protect our children when using social networking media like Facebook, Twitter, Texting and the over 25,000 other sites that market themselves as social networks.

The real key is “Social Awareness” and that requires an investment in time by each of us as parents to understand what social networking is, what it is not, which networks our kids are using and and making them aware of some simple rules that will protect them in the future. Do not depend on the school system, the internet or your kids themselves to know how to respond to intimidation, bullies, predators or other internet social threats, you need to be proactive to help protect them, rather than reactive and end up consoling or defending them.

Why Do Words in the Name of God and Religion Cause Such Suffering and Death?

January 23, 2010 Spirtual and Religion

Think about how you were taught to define the two words “sin” and “jihad”. In my upbringing “sin” was a word I learned at a young age and “jihad” was only taught to me after September 11, 2001. It amazes me that simple words can so shape our lives, make us feel guilt, and even drive us to hate, harm and kill each other and ourselves in the name of a religion. What is even more disturbing though is that in many cases we do not even know the origin or true meanings of these words that so impact our feelings, thoughts and lives.

Want To Really Sting an Attacker? Use Wasp Spray!

January 22, 2010 Family

When many of us think of personal protection the first things that come to mind is a gun or maybe pepper spray. Have you ever thought of “Wasp Spray” to keep in the car, home or business to protect yourself against a potential attacker. Sounds a bit crazy, but it is true. Not wanting to own or bring a gun to work at a church she went to and asked her local police department about using pepper spray to protect herself in case of an robbery. They told her she should buy a can of wasp spray instead.

Is Scott Brown The New Face of American Political Change?

January 21, 2010 Politics

Is Scott Brown’s election to the Senate from the ultra liberal Commonwealth of Massachusetts the beginnings of a political revolution started by the Tea Party Movement in 2009?  Could it be that independent voters are finally rising up in mass to support candidates based on issues that are important to them and the country, or [...]
