The 4 Essential Social Media Resources To Use During Super Bowl XLIV

by BS on February 6, 2010

It is Super Bowl XLIV Weekend and even though my hometown favorite did not make it to Miami this season I will be watching the game along with millions of others.  The difference is that this will be my first interactive Super Bowl.  Yes my laptop (to the almost certain disdain of my wife) will be placed in front of me in the middle of the coffee table surrounded by all of the other Super Bowl essentials (chips, nachos, cheese, wings, crackers, beer, wine, etc).

Former NBA star Jalen Rose shared what he called the “8 Social Media Resources for Super Bowl XLIV” on the Mashable Blog this morning and for all of those who want to bring a new dimension to your Super Bowl experience while relaxing in from of your TV I suggest you read his article and stake out a spot for the laptop prior to game time.

The Top Interactive Social Media Resources for the Super Bowl

I have identified my 4 must links and sites to utilize during the Super Bowl to create my interactive experience.   Not only does it enable me to have real time data, access to the Saints and Colts local broadcasts (so I can turn off volume on my TV) it also is a great stress reliever by diverting frustration into cyberspace if your team is losing or the ref’s make a crappy call.   There are millions out there that you can find who “feel your pain”.  They are:

  1. The NFL Super Bowl Website – Great for pregame history and getting your self pumped up.  It includes an abundance of interactive information including Super Bowl news, the history of the big game, a visitor’s guide, local events, trivia, etc.  Add this to ESPN and the 16 hours of pre-game the network will have and you will get your game face on!
  2. Tweets and Pics – The NFL also set up a special site for football fans who use Twitter (Twitter) and Flickr (Flickr) to track their social media contributions to Super Bowl weekend. The site lets users explore photos and tweets from fans tagged #SB44, the official tag of the Super Bowl.   The NFL itself has an official Twitter presence at @NFL.  Great for interacting with other fans, calling the big play and making fun of JETS fans (easy to pick out by Twitter names).
  3. NFL Game Center – The most important link once the game starts is the Game Center Site which will update with live score reports and a play-by-play drive chart. It also includes links to live radio broadcasts from both New Orleans and Indianapolis for fans that subscribe to the NFL’s Field Pass service.  With the game on CBS you can also go to CBS Sports as they have their own interactive tools and game center
  4. The Commercials – Everyone needs a break and you might miss the best commercial of the whole game.  Don’t worry!  After kickoff on Sunday, check out out the YouTube Ad Blitz where commercials will be uploaded as they air and fans will be able to vote for their favorites, and you can watch real-time, Twitter-powered rankings of the ads on the BrandBowl 2010 site.

Proper Planning Prevents Poor Super Bowl Performance

Remember, kick-off is at 6:25 p.m. EST so you need to start planning and preparing now.  Do not get caught looking for an outlet that works to plug in your computer at 6:30 p.m. when you realize that your battery is almost dead. That is a recipe for disaster and potential spilled snacks.

Have a great Super Bowl Sunday, enjoy the game and be safe if you are driving and watching the game any place other than in your own Personal Interactive Game Center.

Painful to predict, Colts by 6…….
